The Festival of Dark Arts was originated by Astoria's Fort George Brewery + Public House founder and owner Jack Harris as a way to celebrate and perpetuate the month of February becoming Stout Month (hopefully, someday, worldwide!)
The crow naturally lends itself to this imagery; the canning jar is the vessel of the Fort George pint... The Dark Arts mean so many things to so many people. So do spiders.
Elements of the poster were supposed to reflect the entire spectrum of art displayed at the fest while maintaining a "Carnival" feel. The poster was also made to be editable to change the date, price and other elements as they change year to year.
